This is the first room one comes to after passing through the massive courtyard, and it's designed to impress. It's fairly large and very tall, with an arched stone ceiling supported by wooden beams. The walls are bare stone, but at regular intervals tapestries have been hung that depict historic battle-scenes in warm colours. At the far end is a double set of staircases that lead to the floor above. The entry hall is often used as a meeting place, and there are several benches along one wall to give people a place to just sit and chat.
